Going Red

No, i'm not trying to be a Commie, haha! I went from blonde to red hair recently, and although it was a bit darker than I intended it to be, and I will probably go to a happy medium next time between blonde and red, I decided to use my hair as an experiment on people to see if the reacted differently to me than when I was blonde. Sneaky sneaky!!
I work part time at a BBQ restaurant that has a country night on Fridays, which is pretty much the only night I work. And country is one of the few dance styles I have never tried!
I found that in general, most people that aren't as close to me LIKE my red hair. Girls I know at least, as they keep telling me how good it looks, and how well I pull it off. Right on! haha. Although it makes me question to what extent the girls I know are catty and like me better as a redhead because of the mindset in CA that "gentlemen prefer blondes." Now I am not saying that girls I know are catty necessarily whatsoever, and it would be rude of me to asume such a thing, but it does give food for thought, now doesn't it? You KNOW you have questioned this yourself at the time of a new haircut, style, new makeup, new outfit, etc that you might have been slightly insecure about. I would have to come to the conclusion that it's roughly 95% our own insecurity, and about 5% cattiness...what do you think?
As for people I don't know, customers for instance at the restaurant, men refer to me as "that redheaded waitress" and women look slightly wary of me...is that a good thing or a bad thing? I guess that depends on who is paying my tip! Haha! I think my tips are about the same as when I was a blonde though. Hmmm....
I read a journal article for a Communications class I took about a waitress who wore a flower in her hair some days, and didn't on others to see if the flower changed her tip amount. The study showed that when she wore a flower, her tips were in fact a little bit larger overall! Cool huh? made me start wearing a flower, that's for sure! Too bad it didn't have the same affect when I changed my hair color.
Oh well, change can be a good thing and I am glad I took the plunge!

Cheers!
